My house was originally designed with only electric-heat (baseboards) in mind. Mom added a fireplace in the design, but that was only for occassional use. Three years later when electicity prices quadrupled, we added two top-loading wood stoves (one on the lower level and one on the upper level of the split-level home) and used that for decades. We gathered wood from our own farm property. But now.. living on my own, I'm not really interested in managing a wood stockpile (and the whole mess and chimney- cleaning it requires). I'd rather just turn a dial and get the heat that way, so I'm back to baseboard. The overall yearly cost is actually about the same. Last year, there was a power outtage that urged me to consider having a little stockpile of wood, just in case. I'm doing that now. I haven't started using any baseboard-electric heat yet this year. I just fire up the stove long enough to take out the worst of the chill with scrap wood that I can find laying around the property. The A> energy crisis is a myth, I tell you :-) Hmmm.. maybe I should gather some horse shit from my neighbor across the road! I suppose the little version of it from goats would be considered the pellet variety. :D -- ../|ug --- OpenXP 5.0.50 * Origin: (} Pointy McPointface (618:250/1.9) .
