Those were the days. :) Yeah, I have always tried to keep energy usage in mind as much as possible. That was one of the big reasons I moved to these large servers so I could virtualize all the desktops that I was using as servers. At one time I think I had near 20 PCs running 20x7, so moving many of them to VMs on a big server ended up saving me money. The (2) Supermicro servers that I have running 24x7 average around 700 watts total (350 watts each). My personal PC uses close to 800 watts by itself, mainly due to the (3) GPUs. Add in a few 48 port switches, firewall, my wife's PC, my son's PC, probably around 2500-3000 watts per hour on all the stuff together. At 7 cents per kwh, that would be around $5 day. That might be on the high side, but $155 month for all of it. My total power bill (natural gas and electricity) is normally between $300-$400 month. Any time i get it around $350, especially in the summer, I'm super happy. I used to have a hot tub and in ground pool in my old house 16 years ago. I paid around the same back then, as hot tubs really add to the power bill. I ended up giving the hot tub away since it cost more to run than the use I was getting out of it. - Mark --- WWIVToss v.1.52 * Origin: http://www.weather-station.org * Bel Air, MD -USA (618:100/12.0) .
