Might be inconvenient, but some people need the fast response  
that B12 injections provide. In my town, almost every other  
senior is being prescribed B12 injections.  Why is that?  Are  
their diets so poor?

The pill form of anything literally goes through a burning hell  
as it lingers in the stomach for a while and often less  
effective by the time it gets out. The injection version is  
probably the cheapest (covered by health care) as well here  
too.
