Correct, you'd still need to make sure your both your cable/DSL modem and ATA have power for the service to work, so I have them plugged into a UPS which gives them power for ~30 minutes. The alarm system has its own battery that lasts much longer than that, but our power outages are few & far between and don't generally last that long. Jay ....
