I don't think it is entirely about lousy credit.  The current  
$40 pre-paid plan with Lucky seems "normal" to me!  :D    
Besides, I really liked the bring-your-own-device option.

The discount services like Lucky, Chatr and Public are "self- 
serve" systems.  I really liked being able to get the $10S SIM  
on my own and register on my own (for FREE).
