It can still be a valid excuse - even in Algonquin Park. There  
are black-holes of no reception.

We may think we don't want to be reached, but we probably  
appreciate making a call when there is a problem.

I took a simple hike of my backwoods property last April (Easter  
weekend). Wish I had a dog with me for company - but that's  
different story.  Anyway.. I decided to cut through some bush  
knowing what was on the other side of "the ridge".  When I  
emerged, I was in a totally unexpected part of my property.  
Apparently, I wandered off far too much to West when I thought I  
was headed South. And during that time there were a few  
precarious parts where I could have slipped and hurt myself.  I  
imagined that had something happened to me, no one would be the  
wiser until several days had passed when people expected me to  
be at my shop in town.

I think it was Ashley Judd (actress) who was recently in the  
news after she took a serious tumble in Africa a few days ago  
and shattered a leg after tripping over a fallen tree. Although  
she may not have wanted to receive calls from a casting agent  
during her hike, the was probably assured that help would meet  
them once they got out of the jungle in that makeshift  
stretcher.

I had my Blackberry with me as I used it to take some pictures.  
I tested cell coverage and it was good.  But all that while I  
was thinking that I am glad that I am not one of those people  
that feels the need to be reached by phone all the time.
