It's not a law, per se, but a regulation set forth by the power monopoly.  Many people don't realize that the power grid in the US is a giant monopoly, much like how Ma Bell was before its breakup in 1984.  Yet you don't hear the government or anyone else whining about that fact.

I am considering settling in Greeneville, which is the county seat for Greene County (the county to the west of us).  Property taxes are like a quarter of what they are here in Washington County.  Plus there's less people and, outside of Greeneville proper, the traffic's not bad at all.  The only kicker is that I have to have a good, reliable car and be willing and able to drive about 40 to 60 minutes east to Johnson City for my medical care.  Thankfully, the VA is doing more and more teleconferencing for appointments.

Thanks for checking on that ... I know how easy it is to overlook something stupid simple and have things break ... like how I realized two years ago my system wasn't set up correctly for routing netmail within Micronet.
