Subj : CD->MP3 project To : Kevin Nunn From : August Abolins Date : Fri Jan 08 2021 16:58:00 Hello Kevin! ** On Friday 08.01.21 - 09:59, Kevin Nunn wrote to August Abolins: KN> ..I have gotten a few LP's recently, just for KN> collector purposes and they are indeed heavier. I am tempted to get one or two myself. But first, I really need to make sure I get a new cartridge/needle kit. The virgin play would be need to be the best that it can be! AA>> It is very nice to be able to crank up the sound.. KN> Now divorced, which is great, but I live in an upstairs apartment, so I KN> don't want to piss off my neighbors :) Maybe you can find out when your neighbors downstairs would be away. I lived in apartments most of the time. Two of my last apartments were in very modern buildings, THICK solid concrete floors and walls between units. I was impressed with the sound isolation. Even my apartment door for one of them was an oversized solid OAK. In previous apartments, I had far fewer complaints around suppertime 5p-8p. But then, I only cranked up the occassional song, not a whole album. I figured that my neighbours thought I had good taste and therefore did not mind my selections. ;) KN> I have a high end pair of IEMs and they sound amazing, but I do miss KN> "feeling" the music (bass). My nearest neighbour is at least 200ft away, their living-side of the house is on the other side of their garage which is closest to me. I can see my next closest neighbour across the lake, but that is atleast 0.5km away. Often I will play loud well into the early hours. AA>> ..The original woofers "rotted" out around the rims. KN> When I was younger I had a set of speakers that did that, KN> tried to fix them myself with fingernail polish, but it KN> didn't last long LOL. I could not afford to actually get the KN> fixed at the time. The good ole days. In my case, the woofers were completely detached from their rims. Prior to noticing that, the speakers were seldom played for about 5 years, and the room they were in had big swings of temperature. One day I decided I wanted to play them really loud, but I heard the occassional mechanical KLUNK in sync with the normal beats. Then, I thought that the woofers were "blown out" (although I didn't know what a typical blown-out speaker would look like). But when I removed the front fabric grill (very easy to detach), I noticed that the woofers were detached from the softest part of the outer rims. My heart sank. -- ../|ug --- OpenXP 5.0.48 * Origin: (} Pointy McPointface (618:250/1.9) .
