Subj : CD->MP3 project To : August Abolins From : Bob Roberts Date : Thu Jan 07 2021 11:03:46 BR>> Very cool. Let me know what you think. Their most popular song is BR>> Murakami on "Without My Enemy What Would I Do". AA> Murakami.. is that the one that starts with what sounds like a AA> record playing backwards? Correct. AA> I like what I hear. I haven't heard everything though. I notice AA> that some of the recordings are just pure instramental. AA> How would this music be classified: industrial pop? I would consider it more "Electro Pop." Or "Indie Electro." Industrial pop would be more hard-driving, distorted, or agressive. Such as Ashbury Heights or Ladytron. (Ladytron rides the border between Electro pop and Industrial pop). AA> The music and vocals also reminds of a less breathy Dido. AA> The beats and minimalistic music treatment reminds me of a AA> Canadian duo called Timbuk2 (but I can't find the CD right now) Made in Heights is two people, the guy (Sabzi) composes the music and programs the synths and stuff, and the lady (Kelsey Bulkin)* sings. She doesn't sing on every track. There's also an album where there are both vocal and instrimental versions of each track. I searched Timbuk2 on Spotify but there seem to be several artists with that name. If you have a link please share. If you enjoyed Made in Heights but maybe want something more mellow, check out "Boards of Canada". This type of music really is my favorite. Electronic beats backed by breathy / melodic vocals. Other good acts to check out... Chvrches, Purity Ring, Verite, Broods, Vera Blue. AA> Rerecoring the catalog sounds like a good tactic to undercut the AA> value of the originals, but rarely have anyone's re-recorded AA> versions stood up, IMHO. There are exceptions though. Can't AA> think of anything right now. Apparently she's re-recording without embelishment or changing the original, but I think its natural human nature to reinterpet... and she'll be changing the way she sings and/or performs the songs somehow. Hopefully not to the extent that George Lucas changed the original Star Wars Trilogy. AA> BTW.. I overheard in another echo that you were looking for some AA> offline reader alternatives. I recommend OpenXP! See tear line. AA> To see screenshots and for more information, see: I've tried to get OpenXP working in Linux before, and was able to start the config progress, but as soon as I try to poll my boss node it locks up and I have to kill the process. I will play with it more one day. I've read since that OpenXP is very picky about Nodelists, so maybe I need to check in that direction more. *Kelsey Bulkin is the neice of Mark Spiro, who wrote and produced tracks for Cheap Trick, John Waite, Heart, Bad English, and others.
