I have a similar setup with a Drobo NAS.  It has 5x 4TB WD Red drives in it along with an mSATA 256GB SSD for acceleration.  We've used 7.65TB of it so far and have 6.7TB free.

We have it setup with single disk redundancy (RAID5), but could turn on dual disk redundancy if we felt we needed it (RAID6).  It'll alert us if any of the drives ever fail.

We store mostly media on it, but also have a 1TB TimeMachine compatible share for backing up the Mac.  I also use Arq backup on Windows to back my laptop up to the NAS and have another job in Arq to backup My Documents to the cloud as well.  (Arq backups can be encrypted, so I don't have to worry about people in the cloud snooping on my totally boring & unimportant documents).

I also have my BBS setup to backup to the NAS nightly as well with tar & 7zip.

Same here, any of our movies & TV shows we can always get again.  A lot of them are purchased from iTunes and then we strip the DRM off & store them on the NAS.  Others are DVD rips of TV shows & other movies.  I mean, it would suck having to do all of that again, but it's not the end of the world.
