I'm not too sure about how Comcast equiptment does it.  I have ATT fiber and stream all my TV.  I've found that DSLReports (Broadband Reports) Forums are an excellent source of this type of info.  I seem to remember there were two competing IP over Coax technologies for homes.  Depending on how your coax is routed and split sometimes you can isolate segments of it.

Does your comcast modem use Coax to feed video to your cable boxes?  Is it a whole-home-DVR type situation?
