It annoys the hell out of me when someone uses a LFN to hatch out a program considering many of the systems do not support LFN.  Mine does, being that it's OS/2 using IBM's JFS for its filesystem, but it's a courtesy to use 8.3 for the myriad (and majority) of systems that cannot support LFN.

I don't know if it's a lack of courtesy or a lack of awareness and common sense in today's sysops (probably the latter).  You cannot assume anything in BBSing anymore.

As it's been said: the nice thing about standards is that there's so many to choose from.
