I think in this discussion "pious" would be a better word (in the "sincere but unlikely to be fulfilled" since of wanting things to happen that won't).

However, with these particular persons of discussion here, if you stuck a piece of coal in their ass, you'd get a diamond in a few minutes.

In that sense, yes, they're anal.
