apam did some tweaking under the thought that maybe my version of raspbian
wasn't interpreting the endian stuff correctly.  I recompiled it, started
using postie again, and it all appears to be working now - k-o-w.

I did find a mistake in my binkd.cfg that was causing it not to find the
micronet flo files, so that is also now working.  Imported a whole bunch of
messages in one of the test echos this morning and everything imported ok,
no disappearances that I could see.
