regardless of what he told you, over time he told a different story.

he did not want anybody to participate in the development.
he had it open for a little while and he said he didn't like that
nobody participated.

he also would shoot down people's ideas and didn't want people to contribute.
I also heard from someone that g00r00 got mad because this someone took the
source and put it on his website and that's when it all happened.

this someone used to take other people's stuff and make a few changes and
stamp his name on it. he even tried to charge for it in the past. hint: he's a
furry.

it's his stuff and he has a right to be closed source. I've seen stuff get put
on github and people fork it and do a few dumb things and then they claim they
are an author.  

I don't think mystic should be open source, i don't even think anybody could 
really improve it in that environment.  probably the only decent bbs software 
that is open source is synchronet and there's only about 2-3 guys who really
really do good things with synchronet.
