Its been my experience, personal and professional, that life really boils down to there being two types of sysadmins. The first tend to be normal. Normally social, outgoing, fun to hang out with, go for beers, can switch off from discussing work and especially tech, its not a big deal if something breaks, BBS software usually runs good as the OS is better at running DOS, etc and surprisingly these guys tend to have good backups. These sysadmins make the computer "work for them". Its just a silly computer that runs programs. Its not a big deal. If they can't fix it, someone else can. The second tend to be sooooooooo insufferable, no social skills, usually very rude or a masochistic know-it-all, extremely defensive of their precious system as they likely spent MANY hours perfecting it (but its never really perfected), love to yack about how great their system is even as updates break dependancies, and BBS doors usually never work because their OS was never meant to run DOS (and if they do run DOS it needs to be some emulator). These sysadmins "work for their computer". Their computer is such a big deal to them they can't pull themselves away from it. Programs that run just never seem to ever run "right". Theres *ALWAYS SOMETHING* that needs tinkering with. And with all the tinkering, if they can't fix it... nobody else can. Guess which runs Windows and which runs Linux...
