I'm using OS/2 Warp 3 - I have it installed on a real Pentium computer but 
also in Virtualbox for testing (pre-built Virtualbox images are available on 
gekk.info/os2_ovas/ )

I just found the Renegade source on github so I'll see if I can dig into the 
issue further, doesn't look very promising with my zero Pascal experience ;)

Otherwise using Frontdoor sounds like a good workaround!  and I did use FD 
back in the day so it definitely fits into the 1990s BBS build theme.
