Is this using the actors & characters from the prequel movie  (same name?)

Is the camaraderie intact from TOS? That was the best -- how each character  acted & spoke exactly as you'd expect them to, & there was a real shipmates'  camaraderie evident.

Can I then just skip season one, or is it somehow needed to fully appreciate  two?
