Now that I am getting used to the quirks it isn't quite as bad.  The issues
I was having with Audacity appear to be related to LXQt, but only on my
laptop.  If I use gnome flashback instead, the glitch (the key stroke
shortcuts quit working in the middle of a project) goes away.

With LXQt/IceWM on my other machine, it also seems to work fine.
