IMHO, it would be really great if there was a way to do a "security upgrade" that only upgrades the OS (like the kernel) and anything that interacts with the "outside world" while leaving most of the foreground software unchanged. You *can* do this with debian, for a while, by staying on a previous version and enabling backports, but that only works until the version you are on stops being updated.
