I removed the update notification from the launcher bar -- at least won't have that as a trigger. I do have an Xpad note to also remind me. (XPad is like an electronic Post-It note.) > I have found a potential backup for WiFi connections: > https://askubuntu.com/questions/1552167/ubuntu-25-04-how-to-backup-wifi- > connections > I haven't taken the time to look at it but I think it is more for > keeping the data to connect to an Access Point: SSID, password, that > sort of thing. I think what I need to do is hold back the package > updates (apt-hold) like I do with MythTV. KM> Oh. Mine are no more complex than input the wifi password. Mine are pretty much that simple also, except also select the network as being in the Beeg CeeTee have a bunch to select. KM> When I had to replace the router, instead of changing the KM> password on 50 devices, I put the old password on the new router. KM> Much easier! Yup! Unless there is a hacking problem no need to switch. ...And then if there is a hacking probem probably should have switched the password well before getting a new router! > KM> I would hold off on updates until it's definitively fixed. > KM> If it does hit you, a different wifi via dongle might be an > KM> option. > My Scottish Guy isn't too happy with that answer! Not long ago I got one thrown in for KM> a buck with some other order. Doesn't need to be the latest KM> model, and may or may not need an external antenna for your spot. The two in question definitely do -- OK: one for certain and the other probably because of being in a similar location as the first. A while back had tried installing a Pi with a camera: tested fine up here in the Computer Room but placed where I wanted it -- very weak signal; generally below threshold. ...With the external antenna (has two short 'ears' about 4 inches long I get a reliable signal. No idea of the dB but it works properly. KM> Here's a faster model with an antenna. KM> https://www.ebay.com/itm/154554656872 KM> Tho being essentially the same chipset, dunno if that would help. KM> However, Being the similar chipset might cause the same issue. The other thing which makes me a little uncomfortable is the weight of the antenna on the USB port. Not that a USB cord floats in the air. ¯ ® ¯ BarryMartin3@MyMetronet.NET ® ¯ ® .... Why easier to weigh a fish than a chicken?
