There's another reason to use disposables like hubs and short extension 
cables, rather than repeatedly using the ports on the much-more-costly 
mainboard (whether convenient or not). Or at least stick to ports that 
are not directly attached to the motherboard.

I got some one foot extensions from Jacobsparts (ebay) precisely for 
this purpose. Also makes stupidly-arranged ones easier to reach.
