It seems the schools are closed and do late-starts/early-dismissals a 
heck of a lot more than I rmemember when I was going to school.  I will 
admit the comparison is skewed: I went to public school in the city and 
while surrounded by small towns, etc., they took care of their own 
students.  Here I'm still in the city and still most of the rural kids 
go to the outlaying towns.  Just now I generally watch TV while eating 
breakfast (never did that when growing up!) and so exposed to the 
announcements -- plus done on the crawl at the bottom of the screen and 
I don't think that was an option back then.
