Subj : A Sad Encounter To : Mike Dippel From : Barry Martin Date : Wed Jul 23 2025 07:12:00 Hi Mike! -> MD> The funds that they used to be able to hire roughly 1000 officers -> MD> ran out after 2 years. -> I could see that. Paying 1,000 officers is not a small chunk of change, MD> They slowly started to call back some officers. They gave MD> preference to females and black individuals. I was already MD> working for 3 years in Fort Lauderdale when they sent me my MD> notice. There was no way I would move back to Detroit after MD> finding the perfect place to live and work. Yes, if you're happy where you are no real need to change. -> Which makes sense. Two officers patrolling together makes sense in one -> group of ways, single officers also makes sense as can cover more area, -> just wait for assistance when warranted. MD> Single person vehicles were assigned to lower crime areas; MD> two-person cars in the higher crime areas. That makes sense. -> MD> One thing you have to do in bad situations is to be as calm as -> MD> possible so as not to have to try and be the Incredible Hulk. -> MD> You can turn into the Hulk once backup arrives :) -> I'll admit I would not be a good officer. (Oooo! Can I play -> 'bad cop'?!!) I have patience but not the right kind for that sort of -> job. MD> Not sure if I mentioned this before but I DID save 2 lives while MD> in Florida. I was always trying to help the community in any way MD> I could. Saving lives is the ultimate in what I can do for the MD> community. You could have done that as well. Even bad cops can MD> have a good day every once in a while :) -> Horray for saving lives! Closest things I did was report a guy who was running through my backyard while I was doing some work back there. Taken barebones like that makes me sound like an (anal orifice) but to get into my backyard takes a bit of zig-zagging through fences and a strip of trees and brush. Just not done, especially at a run. Soemthing's not right -- I was thinking medical emergency of some sort -- so called the Police. About a minute later squad cars roaring up the street; the Police were searching for that guy for an occurrence two blocks away. Other one: some guy -- probably homeless as had a small cart of stuff with him -- was sort of camping in the middle of a busy street. Good news, he was in the turn lane and petty much staying in it, bad news is he sometimes got a little too close to the line and a distracted driver could have a made a turn and -splat-, I got to a parking lot and called the Police -- IMO that street is too busy to attempt to make a phone call -- the 911 Operator sort of had a brush-off attitude and why didn't I stay with or close by to monitor the subject -- too dangerous! Anyway, did see a squad car with lights going towards the location. ¯ ® ¯ BarryMartin3@MyMetronet.NET ® ¯ ® ....
