Subj : The smoke got let out To : Daryl Stout From : Barry Martin Date : Tue Aug 03 2021 06:54:00 Hi Daryl! Welcome back! BM> As long as only an 'oops' and not an 'ohhh sheeeet'....! DS> It can be both. Sort of like the meme, where the baby has a DS> horrified look on his face, and exclaims "OMG!! That wasn't a DS> f@rt!!". Or, as they describe it in the hospital...a "Code DS> Brown". How's that for being original?? And, apparently it DS> happened in another room (the patient pooped in the bed)...as the DS> female nurse who was supposed to give me a bath, got tied up in DS> cleaning up the crap...literally. It's not a job it's a doody! BM> And part of the function of a electrolytic capacitor is to remove AC BM> ripples and line noise, not create it. DS> Speaking of capacitors, the air conditioner guy had to replace DS> that in the central air unit here, and add refrigerant...cost me DS> $245. But, at least it's comfortable in here, compared to what it DS> is outside. It's only 54ø here currently!! Unusually cool for the beginning of Augus. Will be in the low 80's this afternoon; weatherman said the average for the date is 84ø. As for the capacitor replacement, a very common job. And possibly a good thing it failed as then your refrigerant was refilled and probably makes your system mmore efficient, so saving you the money you spent on the repair (eventually). BM> The old one hardly generated any sort of warmth either and AFAIK BM> didn't heat up after the failure either -- 'course the failure in the BM> power supply could have fried the switch part and so nothing to create BM> heat! (It looked unharmed; doesn't take much to open junctions.) DS> Some other components need a heat-sink (not sure how that's DS> spelled) to dispel the excess temperature. You spelt it correctly, though doesn't use a hyphen (though two words). There were two heat sinks inside, one on each IC which probably control the data movement. DS> ... Doesanyoneknowhowmuchitcoststogetaspacebarrepaired?? Probably a lot more than the cost of a replacement keyboard! ¯ BarryMartin3@ ® ¯ @MyMetronet.NET ® ....
