I'd definitely be checking with the eye doctor and maybe doing the second opinion thing. Overnight (while sleeping) I get a "bit of a film" on my eyes but a few blinks takes care of that. Gound - slightly dried-up tears. This probably isn't your film but would sort of lead to to possibility of dry eyes, though would seem your eye doctor would diagnose easily as in-person.
