(OHIO PENN DX) ** KICKER: CELEBRATING 50 YEARS BY WORKING ALL STATES - BY SATELLITE PAUL/ANCHOR: We end this week's report with a story of sky-high ambitions. Inspired by the W1AW "Worked All States" event for the ARRL's centennial, the Radio Amateur Satellite Corporation, or AMSAT, is marking its 50th anniversary by asking hams to aim high - something our antennas do naturally anyway. The group has launched W3ZM as its Worked-All-States Satellite activation, with members from around the U.S., the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico, calling QRZ, using that call sign. It has all been in preparation for AMSAT's 50th Anniversary Space Symposium and General Meeting, which opens in Arlington, Virginia, on the 18th of October -- not far from where AMSAT was founded in Washington a half century ago. In late June, AMSAT members got on the air via satellite from their home QTH, their cars, anyplace where opportunity and inspiration converged. If you look at the printed version of this week's Newsline script, you'll see the website where their activation schedules are being posted. {don't read: amsat.org/events/was-w3zm/} Executive Vice President Paul Stoetzer N8HM said the informal event has attracted more than 1,000 contacts since the summer. Help celebrate their 50 years on earth by joining them in the sky. ** NEWSCAST CLOSE: With thanks to Amateur News Weekly; AMPR.org; the ARRL; AMSAT; AMSAT South Africa; CQ Magazine; Funk Telegramm; Havre Daily News; Japan Ladies Radio Society; MiamiHab; Ohio-Penn DX Bulletin; Radio Society of Great Britain; Radio World; Southgate Amateur Radio News; Ted Randall's QSO Radio Show; Villanova University; WTWW Shortwave; and you, our listeners, that's all from the Amateur Radio Newsline.
