Subj : Amateur Radio Newsline (C) To : All From : Daryl Stout Date : Thu Jul 25 2019 21:21:57 NEW RECORD SET BY YOUNG HAMS AT CURACAO DX ADVENTURE STEPHEN/ANCHOR: They're young - they're hams - and they just set a new record! Neil Rapp, WB9VPG, tells us who they are. NEIL: Each year, the Dave Kalter Memorial Youth DX Adventure, gives young hams a chance to be the DX. This year was no exception. The team of Bryant, KG5HVO, Jack, KM4ZIA, and Audrey, KM4BUN, has just returned from the PJ2T contest station in Caracao, where they operated as PJ2Y. Bryant kept the CW rolling most of the time, while Jack and Audrey worked mostly SSB. They appeared on Ham Talk Live! just hours after finishing their operating time, and announced that they set a new record of 6,593 Qs for the DX Adventure. Reporting for Amateur Radio Newsline, I'm Neil Rapp, WB9VPG. ** BREAK HERE: Time for you to identify your station. We are the Amateur Radio Newsline, heard on bulletin stations around the world, including the N5OZG repeater in New Orleans, Louisiana, on Sundays at 8 p.m. ** PERU EASES RESTRICTIONS FOR NOVICE CLASS STEPHEN/ANCHOR: Novice class license-holders in Peru no longer face strict deadlines to upgrade. Robert Broomhead, VK3DN, has those details. ROBERT: Amateur radio operators in Peru who hold Novice class licences are no longer compelled to upgrade with a three-year-period. According to the IARU Region 2, the new regulations that have taken effect in that country will benefit newcomers to the hobby most especially. Under the former regulations, any novice class operator who did not upgrade within three years would automatically be expected to forfeit their licence. Novices are now permitted to remain in that class until they take action to upgrade. Novices are also getting more frequencies on the VHF/UHF bands. They are adding 144 to 146 MHz to their previous use of 146 to 148 MHz. Novices are also gaining use of 70 cm as a new band. This is designed in the hopes of encouraging satellite and experimental uses. These new regulations now permit the use of both virtual and physical QSL cards. For Intermediate class licensees. the new regulations bring them access to the 70 cm band as well. For Amateur Radio Newsline, I'm Robert Broomhead, VK3DN.
