some input from hams. Changes may be coming to Britain's license exam

AMATEUR FEEDBACK NEEDED FOR THAILAND'S FIRST SATELLITE

PAUL/ANCHOR: We begin this week's report with word that hams in Thailand
and in the Netherlands are asking the amateur radio community for some
help. We turn first to Thailand, where the effort is focused on that
nation's first amateur radio satellite. Jason Daniels, VK2LAW, explains.

JASON: The Radio Amateur Society of Thailand, and the project team behind
the new amateur radio transponder satellite JAISAT-1, are asking for hams
to send telemetry data from the 435.700 MHz beacon being transmitted on
the satellite, which was launched earlier this month by a Soyuz rocket,
along with amateur radio payloads from Germany, Estonia, Sweden, and the
Czech Republic. This is Thailand's first amateur radio satellite, and it
was inspired by earlier experimentation with amateur radio balloon
launches. JAISAT is an abbreviation for the Joint Academy for Intelligent
Satellites for Amateur Radio of Thailand.

JAISAT-1's project manager, Tanan Rangseeprom, HS1JAN, has asked that all
raw data and KSS files be sent to RAST by email at jaisatonetele at gmail
dot com. The request was posted on the AMSAT Bulletin Board.

HAMS IN NETHERLANDS CONDUCT PROPAGATION EXPERIMENT

PAUL/ANCHOR: Hams are also being asked to help out in the Netherlands
simply by getting on the 2-metre band. We hear more from Ed Durrant,
DD5LP.

ED: Amateurs in the Netherlands are inviting hams around the world to
participate in an experiment on 2 metres on Saturday, the 20th of July,
from 1700 to 1900 UTC. VERON, the national amateur radio organisation in
the Netherlands, is asking hams to get on the band in any mode, and
simply make and log your QSOs. The organisers are hoping this propagation
experiment will also illustrate the many things that are possible on 2
metres, particularly in light of amateurs' recent connection on the band
with China's Longjiang-2 satellite, and the first transatlantic connection
on the band. All data should be uploaded to Clublog at clublog dot org
before the 1st of August. Organisers stress that because this is not a
contest, real signal reports will be invaluable for this international
VHF exercise. Connections can be digital, SSB, CW, FM, or any other mode
that relies on propagation.

WARBIRDS OF AMERICA OPERATING SPECIAL EVENT STATION AT AIR SHOW

PAUL/ANCHOR: A fly-in convention at a regional airport in Wisconsin is
putting something else on the air besides planes: ham radio. Here's Andy
Morrison, K9AWM.

ANDY: During the 65th annual Experimental Aircraft Association fly-in
convention this month at Wittman Regional Airport in Oshkosh, Wisconsin,
the airport's control tower becomes the world's busiest - but between
July 22nd and July 28th, it's the amateur bands that become even busier.
That's when Warbirds of America, a division of the Experimental Aircraft
Association, will be putting special event station W9W on the air.
They'll be operating at the big show that draws about 10,000 aircraft,
2,000 show planes, and an international collection of visitors. It will
be a full week of aerobatics, concerts, warbird displays, and workshops.
It will also be a full week of back-to-back QSOs.

Hams will be a part of the celebration, operating W9W mainly on 20 meters
around 14.250, plus or minus, depending on conditions.

There will be a commemorative Warbird QSL card for all successful contacts.
