Then, I had to pay my Mom's income tax, and the hotel bill. It was a good thing I had some money from the Miller Trust, that I had to set aside as her Power Of Attorney (and eventual executor to her estate), as I didn't have $3000 lying around for the cost of those. Then, the insurance company dawdled around, but while they paid for $5000 for a new electric meter and inside panel (replacing the original ones that were on the house when it was built 46 years ago), I still had to pay for the protection and the permits. What I got back paid the water and trash bill this month. JA>Agreed! Which is why I don't knock it, but also don't participate. My niches are nets and doing license exams. I have to make time to print new General Class exam books before my next exam session in early August. JA>There are some location based games I've played on the iPhone. One JA>of them in particular had some people complaining about how others JA>enjoyed the game. To each his own, I say! Life would sure be boring if everything was the same. JA>Yeah. :-) When I'm able to, I'll check in on nets, but it's more to JA>actually TALK to someone out there. :-) So many of the hams on nets are what I call "Hi, Bye, and QSY". They think checking into a net is the MOST IMPORTANT THING IN LIFE, but to me, that should be the least of ones worries. "Net Control, Please copy [callsign], [name], [location], [county], [grid square]. Short Time, No Traffic". Not 2 minutes later, they're doing the same thing on another net...and repeating it through the evening. Don't they have a life outside of ham radio?? I do like a good QSO, and the nets I do. On a packet net last night (that PCL Net I told you about), one station was late, because he heard a brand new ham on the air, and he wanted to be "his first contact". We had no problem with that.
