Yeah, they do all sorts of nonsense with that.

Also, if you have a choice, you want Japanese batteries*** -- they have 
about double the capacity of the nominally-same-rated Chinese batteries 
(which usually only perform at about half their claims), and are far 
less likely to fail. ("Project Farm" channel occasionally tests 
battery-powered devices, and has tested the naked batteries too.)

*** Eneloop (Panasonic) test out best, overall.
