I'm going to put my 2› in; may be the same answer as Ed's, may be something different and we'll all learn.... -=> MIKE POWELL wrote to ED VANCE <=- > It uses a 9V battery. > When I replace a Smoke Alarm battery I put Scotch Tape over the Terminals and> store them in a empty Mayonnaise jug so I can use them for the Pig. Does that only work for MP> 9V or any size cell? I'll put tape over the positive terminal of used UPS batteries so something won't connect, possibly create a short circuit and catch fire. ....Thinking about it a flimsy piece of Scotch tape isn't much of a barrier; packaging tape, duck tape (I think duct tape is metallic), is thicker and so less likely to be sliced open. AA, AAA, C, D's I just put is a small box with the positive ends towards the cardboard -- negative terminal to the center of the box. No complete circuit made. 9v batteries make things interesting: both terminals are on the same end. Putting in the box with the terminals against the carboard is fine: cardboard is non-conductive. (Ky's thinking 'yeah, unless it gets wet'.) My thinking is putting tape across the terminals lessens the possibility of making contact and creating a circuit. I'm not sure what the storage in a mayonnaise jar does other than a _glass_ jar if sealed would minimize air -- limited oxygen for any fire and the glass might remain intact during any brief fire. The new plastic jars would also minimize available oxygen but certainly melt. ¯ ® ¯ BarryMartin3@MyMetronet.NET ® ¯ ® .... I sympathize with batteries: I never get included in anything either. --- MultiMail/Win32 v0.47 þ wcECHO 4.2 ÷ ILink: The Safe BBS þ Bettendorf, IA --- QScan/PCB v1.20a / 01-0462 * Origin: ILink: CFBBS | cfbbs.no-ip.com (454:1/1) .
