There are devices that take a SIM card directly and connect with cell services that way. I have one such thing in use at home for about 3 yrs now. It's a ZTE MF279T. I simply plug in my existing cordless phone base into it, and I can continue to use my multiple cordless phones as usual. I got mine for $6 at a thrift shop.
