Outlook did the same for EACH email message and EACH reply.

And Outlook in the XP era had a bug where it would save between dozens 
and hundreds of copies of the same message! As they were all in the TEMP 
folder, it brought Windows to a dead halt as everything in temp has to 
be parsed every time the system does anything that can use a 
tempfile.... on one client machine I deleted about 12,000 such files, 
and suddenly it behaved normally, instead of taking 15 seconds to 
acknowledge a mouse click.
