Nope, haven't had that kind of problem in ages, but with Windows if something doesn't load during boot, it's usually failing hardware so the hardware ID wasn't detected and therefore the driver doesn't load, and you get the generic Windows driver or none at all. Or the program crashed during startup and I have to restart it from the start menu. (see that occasionally with utilities that run in the system tray). If linux fails midway, it's usually screwed for good. If something fails to load, nothing works, it's stalled, and it's reinstall time.
