My first Shortwave Receiver was a Hallicrafters S-38E. It is a AC-DC set that didn't have a fuse in it so I bought a Nonpolarised Plug that has places on it where I could insert a fuse for each side of the line My younger brother saw that my radio had the AM Band on it and would listen to a Radio Station that had Disk Jockies who talked really crazy on the air. I didn't care for that Station at all and told my brother not to use my HAM RADIO on that Station. He listened on my radio anyway, and the way I found out was that night I heard a CW station calling CQ. I had the finger of my left hand on the Receive/Standby Switch and when I began to turn the knob on my Transmitter to the Transmit position I felt a electric shock. (The transmitter was Grounded). That happened because the room only had one Duplex Outlet in which I had my Receiver and Transmitter plugged into both of the outlets. My brother had his own AM Radio and had unplugged my receiver to listen to his radio that night and switched the plugs back where my radio was plugged in. After that happened I painted the top side of my Nonpolarised Plug with some model paint so he could always replace my radios plug correctly after he finished listening to his radio. AND I always looked down at that Outlet before beginning to get on the air to make sure I saw the painted side of that AC Plug.
