My checks still say Big > KM> Sky Western Bank, two layers of acquisitions later. > Ergh - even with the explanation it sounds confusing! Not so much for > someone like you who has lived there and gone through the absorbtions so > know/aware of the history but a newcomer like me would be really > confused. ...Drive around looking for "Western Security Bank" -- "you > passed it a block back". Drive past Glacier Bank.... KM> LOL, that's pretty much it. It's there, but not visible! KM> When banks fail, they don't just go POOF. They nearly always get KM> absorbed by some other bank. Most of the failing bank's debt is KM> imaginary (money created when loans are made) so it does go POOF, KM> at least for the bank. All customers see is one day the name on KM> the building changes, usually with no notice. Had that happen KM> five times in 28 years with my one-and-only CA bank. I don't recall the details over the years but I started with Davenport Bank, which was created by V. O. Figge, a bank examiner (I think for the State of Iowa, I don't think federal level): bet they followed the rules and all accounts balanced to the penny!! Davenport Bank sold/purchased by Nor'West -- not to be confused with Northwest which were both here at the same time. (Northwest Bank is still operating locally.) Nor'West was then purchased by Wells Fargo, and IMO over the years things went downhill. Earlier this year Wells Fargo closed a few branchs in the area, plus closed their primary site, which was originally Davenport Bank. I haven't heard what is going to be done with it. KM> Glacier Bank went on a tear over the past decade or so and KM> acquired about 120 small banks. Conversely Yellowstone Bank has KM> acquired... three. Guess which one has a better financial KM> profile. (Both in good shape, but acquisitions dilute value...) So good to expand by acquiring the competition, but also caused problems to the bottom line. > > KM> But I managed 4, 5, and 9 all in one phrase! > > How 'bout a couple points for thinking outside the box?! > KM> There was a box?? > Cats got in 'em. KM> Cat must be invisible too. Originally just the Cheshire line but breeding oevr the years..... > > .. Getting old: You no longer think of speed limits as a challenge. > KM> Wait, they were a challenge? > You really need to pay attention! Or maybe you got the bank stuff > straightened out and wore you out so missed the boxes and challenge! KM> And the cats. Don't forget the cats. Out of sight, out of mind! > .. Two words in life will open a lot of doors for people: push and pull. KM> Astonishing! If you push this door and not open, try pulling. If you pull this door and not open, we're closed. ¯ ® ¯ BarryMartin3@MyMetronet.NET ® ¯ ® ....
