I'm thinking a conglomerate.  Read a while back one of the Aldi's owns 
Trader Joe's grocery.  ...Aldi Nord (North) and Aldi Sud (South), 
brothers split the original Aldi because of a disagreement in selling 
cigarettes (IIRC).  When came to the U.S. figured too confusing so one
came up with the different name.  (Locally we had a Nor'west Bank and
Northwest Bank - "everyone" including myself were mixing the two up.)

Probably different plug styles and maybe voltage.  Some items would be 
easy enough to export: USB-A is a constant.  Line voltages do vary but I
have a lot of stuff rated 100-250v so just need to have the right 
mechanical.  But yes, plugging a 120v device into an adapter and into 
the 230 outlet and one heard a 'pop!' very shortly after. ...In my case 
that followed by a feeling of stupidity as I immediately realized what I
did!
