Subj : slow the growing of g To : Daryl Stout From : Barry Martin Date : Tue Aug 01 2023 08:33:00 Hi Daryl! DS> We need to quit meeting like this...folks are going to talk. BM> Good! We need something going on. ...The group, not us! DS> Too many dead echoes in the BBS message networks. A while back it was discussed to remove them; IMO too much work for too little result. DS> Even in "Smokey And The Bandit", Sally Fields told Burt DS> Reynolds (as she tapped her face) "THESE CHEEKS!!". BM> OK, and now do it with a Yiddish accent like a Jewish grandmother would! DS> Or "moon" them like they did in "American Graffitti"...or in DS> this area in the Rocky Mountains, where the campers "moon" the DS> trains as they go by. That's rather cheeky of them! BM> I'm thaking that's not an Arkansas State Trooper/Police vehicle. :( BM> Good think you did wait that split-second or would would have 'split BM> the scene'. That's where a DashCam-type of system would have been BM> handy: at least the satisfaction of tattling on the driver. DS> I saw where they are now putting up portable traffic cameras in DS> the construction zones, that will be activated when workers are DS> present, AND when law enforcement is present. The cameras are put DS> there to catch the speeders...even though the signs note "Fines DS> Double In Work Zones When Workers Are Present". The cameras DS> apparently will be disabled when an officer isn't present...but DS> if one is, the driver will be pulled over, and given a citation DS> (not for being a good driver ). The 'on only when police present' seems to be a good work-around for those laywers who like to use the automated speed trap arguement. If one is going too fast then IMO should be fined, etc. There are a few (very few!) reasons for speeding: rushing to the hospital, warning of danger (cell phones don't always work, or don't know the number). DS> One time, though, in south Florida, the police were looking for DS> "good drivers"...law abiding, proper signaling, lane changes, not DS> speeding, etc. The drivers who got "pulled over" for such were DS> given HIGH DEMAND tickets for an area sporting event or concert. Heard of event like that -- would almost be confusing: why am I getting pulled over? 34 in a 35, used the blinkers out of habit as no one around..... DS> The late Red Skelton also noted a skit, where 2 Canadian DS> Highway Patrol Officers were sitting on the side of the road, and DS> they had not pulled anyone over all day. They decided "the next DS> one that goes by, we'll follow". DS> Well, they get behind this guy, and he drives as perfect and DS> safe as you would want...not speeding, proper signaling, lane DS> changes, etc. They pull him over, and say "Nothing wrong, sir. In DS> all our years, we've never seen such a safe, careful driver". DS> The driver replies "Well, when you're crocked, you've got to be DS> careful!!" . The little tree air freshener swinging from his rear view mirror must have been doing its job! DS> I think about the blonde joke where the blonde gets pulled over DS> by the police officer, and she sobs "I guess you're going to give DS> me a ticket to the policeman's ball". When the cop replied DS> "Policeman don't have balls", the blonde stopped crying, and DS> starting grinning. When the cop realized what he said, he put the DS> ticket book up, and drove off!! . Can't use that one on a female officer! DS> With the deal I made with my Amtrak Guest Rewards points, I've DS> made the choice to drastically cut down my eating and calorie DS> intake. I will eat either 2 Hormel Compleats or 2 Macaroni and DS> Cheese cups (all microwaveable) per day, with a small bag of DS> Grandma's cookies for the dessert for each meal, and a DS> mid-afternoon snack. The total calorie count is around 800....and DS> it showed this morning when I weighed myself; down to 225. By DS> just eating that, except for incontinence items, I won't need any DS> food/groceries again until maybe October. Calorie reduction is a good way to loose weight, just be careful: the body will literally start to eat itself (not the teeth chomping on the liver, but re-absorption of proteins, etc., to maintain itself). Plus a potential imbalance of vitamins, minerals, electrolytes, etc. Might be a good idea to be monitored frequently by some sort of health service. BM> Now that you mention it I've heard that too. So almost makes it BM> impossible to save up for a downpayment on a better house or apartment. DS> Exactly. So while the law protects from going in the hole it also prevents getting out. BM> Now you can have company drop by as they can find your house! BM> ...'House numbers' doesn't sound like a fun spluge for that Amtrak BM> Windfall but why not: something you wanted. DS> It was more for the paramedics when I called 911. But did you have to get the numbers in that Halloween Dripping Blood font?! BM> Yup: also handy for whan the power fails, use as flashlights, or going BM> out at night to admire your mailbox numbers. :) DS> I don't step out on the front porch unless I have to. So hang from the monkey bars suspended from the roof?! BM> Just following doctor's instructions! DS> When he told me to watch what you eat, I told him "I do...from DS> the plate to the mouth". He didn't like my answer. I agree: by now you should be able to move food on your fork blindfolded! BM> Not burning youself is generally a good idea, plus saves a cleanup of BM> hot water and pasta all over the floor. DS> I don't need any more mess around here. But gives that lived-in look! DS> I like to do several at once, then add things like hot dogs, DS> frozen peas (microwaveable), etc., and have a good casserole. Yes, can make a decent stew, etc., by mixing the right things together. ....Hmmm: thinly sliced hot gods on a cheese pizza ==> looks like little pepperoni slices!! ¯ ® ¯ BarryMartin3@MyMetronet.NET ® ¯ ® ....
