(Property taxes lag a year, so not immediate help but at BM> least future help.) There is a deal on the property taxes to "hold them steady" (mainly for real estate, such as the house). That is available if you provide proof you're disabled, and/or on a fixed income. The car's assessment went down each year, as the value decreased over time. But, if you sell the car AFTER May 31, you STILL have to pay the taxes for the year you sold it in. So, I got stuck with that. At least they give me until Oct. 10 to pay everything, as I have other bills between now and then. Last year, I got stuck with paying my brother's property tax...but this year, I mailed his to him. I figure if he can afford to eat out at a restaurant every day, he can afford to pay his property tax. And, if he loses his property for failure to pay, he is NOT coming here to freeload off of me (being here, without paying half the expenses). I will get a restraining order against him, and have him arrested and removed from the premises. The bottom line is that "it's not right to let him have everthing for nothing, while I get stuck with it". He (and most others in the world) detest the truth that "Life is NOT 'fair' or 'Burger King'. Fair is a fall carnival, a weather term, and a call in baseball...and you can NOT always 'Have It Your Way'". I worked for them for 5 years 45 years ago, and I can stay that. The home insurance I pay monthly, and while it costs more in the long run, it'd take 2 months of what I get on disability to pay the premium in full. After the claim I had in 2020 (I had 1 other claim 30 years prior), they spiked the rate. In California (and maybe some other areas as well), you can no longer get insurance on homes, cars, flooding, etc. The increased rate is about $50 more per month...had it been more than that, I would've changed coverage (I still have a $1000 deductible to pay on most items), or found another company. However, I have a feeling that all the prices are similar. BM> The gift that keeps on giving! That's what a burrito is. Daryl ....
