Subj : The storm that wasn't To : Daryl Stout From : Barry Martin Date : Sun Mar 12 2023 07:41:00 Hi Daryl! DS> I saw a video on Facebook, where WGN-TV in Chicago, is DS> celebrating 75 years on the air. There was a segment on long time DS> meteorologist Tom Skilling, who has been there for 45 years. He DS> takes the complicated weather terms, and brings them down to DS> layman's terms, where folks can get an understanding of what may DS> occur. Which makes sense. One of the local TV meterologists posts an on-line article about once a week on a weather term. Here during the forecats they do use a graphic or two while briefly explaining but sounds like Tom Skilling does it more in-depth. (I rememeber seeing him when I had cable and WGN was part of the line-up.) Locally had WOC-TV which first aired October 31, 1949. Several years ago they 'modernized' the call to KWQC -- allegedly KW for both sides of the River (call signs starting with K generally on the west and W on the east) and QC for the Quad Cities. I'll admit to not wanting them to change: can't get three-letter calls any more, plus the history. BM> That snowstorm could be *brutal* for you guys! DS> We may get more ice...hailstones, that is...instead of snow. DS> But, snow has fallen in Little Rock twice on April 19 (it didn't DS> stick), and a few years ago, on Mother's Day Weekend, northwest DS> Arkansas got 7 inches of heavy wet snow. The cold wiped out a lot DS> of vegetation, crops, gardens, etc. We've had some small amounts of snow lately. Did notice last week some of the trees were budding; I guess the good news is it has been just below freezing so shouldn't been too much damage due to freezing. BM> You could give some false readings being all excited from the ride in! DS> I don't want to go back into sinus tachycardia again. (For a split-second I was thinking the sinuses in the head!)
