I think anything can be a source of trash as well as goodness.  TV has 
'good' shows and 'bad' ones; so do books, paintings, poetry, music.....
And the 'good' and 'bad' are in the eye of the beholder, to grab a
phrase.  What one person finds interesting another would be bored to 
death by.  It's the excess time spent, though again who and what are 
doing the defining?!

And with that I shall go back to contemplations upon my naval....<g>
