In college I had visited a friend who lived on very outskirts of a small
town: his place was pretty much surrounded by fields.  Nice and quiet 
for sleeping -- a little too quiet: I could feel my ears trying to 
stretch to pick up sound - any sound!  Too quite according to my 
city-trained ears!
