Subj : Another Day In The ER To : Daryl Stout From : Barry Martin Date : Sun Mar 14 2021 09:28:00 Hi Daryl! BM> That's good! ...We were discussing the rather windy conditions here a BM> few days ago; surprised the power had not glitched; don't recall the BM> power glitching during the winter storms either. DS> I noted a moderate risk of strong tornadoes in the Texas and DS> Oklahoma Panhandles today (March 13). In the last several DS> years...things like violent weather, earthquakes, volcanic DS> activity, etc., have increased markedly. They say it's a reaction to the global warming: somehow weakens the naturally occurring boundaries -- the Jet System breaks out of the usual pattern.... BM> This morning woke up to 32ø! Supposed to get into the low 50's this BM> afternoon; highs in the mid- to upper 40's the next few days. DS> Winter is all but gone here...especially considering the vernal DS> equinox is next Saturday. I'm back into a cooler weather mode -- actually closer to normal temperatures, just after that colder and snowier than normal winter followed by a couple of weeks of seemingly tropical 60's and low 70's going back to the current 30's and 40's in the morning seems cold. BM> This morning's news had a brief list of major construction projects BM> starting next week in the area as part of their Traffic Alerts segment. DS> So many drivers are in their own little world, and not paying DS> attention to these zones. So, they wait until the last second to DS> cut over, etc. The fines in the work zones are DOUBLED when DS> workers are present. To me, it should be QUINTUPLED (5 times), DS> and their Drivers License should be permanently revoked. Many DS> construction workers with the highway department have been hurt DS> or killed by these drivers who speed along like "a bat out of DS> Hades". Here we are supposed to Zipper Merge, which is essentially waiting until the last minute to get into the single lane, though supposed to be done as driving normally in both/the three lanes and not jockeying for first place in the lane. Personally I try to get into the open/through lane early, I guess just because that's the way I was taught: plan ahead. BM> I had done an update to my snow comment -- there was a strip of snow by BM> the south fence -- in the shade but the snow had not melted on either BM> side of where this strip of snow was and seemed like that was just as BM> much in the shade if not more. Also a pile of snow from shovelling the BM> driveway -- that's all melted. DS> I've seen snow as late as April 19 in Little Rock on 2 DS> occasions...but the ground was too warm, so it was just "eye DS> candy". We've also had those late snowstorms. Friend's daughter was born the end of March; going in for labour was sunny and warm, coming out with the baby into a snowstorm! BM> We'll wait! DS> I found it ...a button with a snowflake on it. :P Now you'll be comfortable in summer! BTW, apparently it's not a good idea to suffer it through on short trips: it is recommended to run the air conditioning every so often to keep the seals moistened/lubricated. (In winter it's done via windshield defogging.) ¯ BarryMartin3@ ® ¯ @MyMetronet.NET ® ....
