Subj : colour-blind To : Daryl Stout From : Barry Martin Date : Fri Nov 13 2020 08:55:00 Hi Daryl! DS> He declined the offer to get his eyes checked...he liked them DS> brown, as they were. He added "I don't know what anyone would DS> want with checked eyes, unless you're a cab driver". I was thinking more for a banker; cabs are checkered. DS> Another girl was crushed, when she found out her boyfriend DS> dealt with cataracts instead of Cadillacs. :P So he moved to Egypt and splashed around in them on the Nile! DS> The one good thing with cataract surgery...is that like with DS> the plantar fasciitis surgery on your feet...once it's done, you DS> never have to have it done again. After the cataract surgery, you DS> might have to have the YAG Laser procedure done, but it depends DS> on how the surgery goes. Yet, the sooner you gave the surgery DS> done, the better for your vision restoration. Hopefully I will have just the one procedure but if needs to be tweaked with the laser process it will be done. DS> My visual acuity before the surgery was 20/2000, with extreme DS> nearsightedness and very thick glasses. Afterwards, it went to DS> 20/20. Yea! No idea what the Snellen result is: my regular optometrist didn't say. The eye surgeon mentioned -700 in the right and -1600 in the left, the difference being due to the cataract. And there is a definite 'clouding of the lens': whites via the left eye have a golden cast. DS> Before the surgery (you're awake for it, but your eyes are DS> numbed), there was a black nurse named Ramona, who was taking DS> care of me. When she put the IV in, I didn't even feel the DS> "stick". I told her "Honey, you're good!! I didn't even feel the DS> stick". Grinning, she said to the head nurse (a young white girl) DS> "You have competition", and was told "You had better watch your DS> backside!!". Everyone in the prep ward busted out laughing!! Always good when the crew works well together and has fun. As for the venipuncture, I will sometimes comment, always for the good. If they are having a hard time with the vein I turn it around so it's my fault: if a fasting blood might be something like no coffee and the vein isn't awake yet, or 'scold' my vein for hiding. DS> I had only one eye done first...but had to wait an extra week DS> to get the other eye done, due to a winter storm in the area. At this point will only be having my left eye done as the cataract in the right eye is still tiny and not causing a problem. DS> Now, I only need reading glasses at the computer, or when using DS> the cellphone. If how I see out of my right eye (corrected to 20/20 with the contact lens) is how I will view the monitor I should be fine. It's a 27" LCD monitor and I am about 34" from it. Close-up work on the desk I'll probably will be going back to using the reading glasses: I think I was using the left for close-up work. Just did a little test and the +1.25 reading glasses and using only the right eye clears things up. ¯ BarryMartin3@ ® ¯ @MyMetronet.NET ® ....
