Subj : Proper Shutdown To : Daryl Stout From : Barry Martin Date : Wed Jul 29 2020 09:43:00 Hi Daryl! BM> Yes, if that's the only piece of mail and it's already been taken care BM> of no need to rush down to the Post Office. ...Will be 'interesting' BM> to see what we get for mail Monday. Saturday's (yesterday's) mail BM> notification thing said we were to get two bills and an unknown BM> (usually is magazines or weekly micro-newspaper-mostly-grocery-ads BM> thing). No mail delivered here, saw the postman walking along the BM> street which probably means Linda to the north didn't get any mail BM> either (the carriers usually cut across the yards). Sort of watched BM> across the street and most on that side got 'missed'. Could see if no BM> deliveries at all because of the heat but there were a couple. DS> Yesterday, a $6 clinic bill showed up. I may wait until Monday DS> to pay it. But, I basically am "broke" until Monday. At least I DS> have plenty of food and drink here. You've simply converted your cash assets into food assets. As for my mail, they're trying something at the Post Office. Summary of the summary (so sencond hand information) I got was the carrier goes in an hour later, supposed to get off an hour earlier too (??) and the mail I see in the postal service's e-mail is now scheduled to be delivered the day following. (So the mail pictured in Monday's e-mail is now delivered on Tuesday instead of that day.) BM> Some U.S. airlines are pretty much cramming everyone together 'as BM> needed' while other airlines are not selling the center seat to give BM> some distancing. AFAIC a better option but still not enough. Right BM> now if I _had_ to fly I'd be choosing the airline/flight with the empty BM> center seat. DS> The groping at the airport is the worst. I'm waiting for them DS> to strip search everybody. :P You'd like that!! BM> Yes: a tip should be extra, on top of; as you said, for better-than- BM> expected service, attitude, etc. OTOH I suppose not giving the staff a BM> full paycheck and expecting the amount missing to be made up by tips is BM> one way to keep the servers 'hungry' and so encourage them to give good BM> service (as opposed to plopping the food before the patron) -- I don't BM> know: I never worked in a restaurant..... DS> So many today think that is a demeaning occupation. But, if you DS> can "cut the mustard, and stir the mayo", especially in DS> management, you have a future, as everyone has to eat. Yup. With corporate cutbacks at the store they were saying the closer to the register the safer your job was. Loss Prevention was occasionally non-existant or one person. Stocking, recovery, and the like was trimmed away. Cashiers also had hours cut but not too badly, and if they got backed up called for assistance from another group -- but (of course) most whined when they were asked to help other groups. (Some cashiers were very good about helping, others thought they were too good.) BM> One McDonald's used buns with sesame seeds, the other plain. One used BM> sliced onions, the other chopped (and so more like a relish). Couple BM> of other differences. DS> Admittedly, I do like their french fries. I've read part of the 'trick' is to make sure they are dry before being fried. Home tips recommends patting dry with paper towels. (Plus hot oil and water is not a good combination!) We've been using the air baking tray for french fries and tater tots -- and for some reason don't have them in summer! BM> I'm not into the graphic stuff nor animal cruelty though can watch a BM> 'dissection' and not get queasy so I get the "is it over yet?" "Nope! BM> ... OK, you can open your eyes now". DS> I remember in biology class in high school, this girl at my DS> table was squeamish (I'm the one now), so I had to prick her DS> finger for her for getting a drop of blood. Mind you, this was DS> almost 45 years ago. Oh! I remember doing that! Stab myself on purpose? Are you stupid?! BM> ... "Can you tell me when my past due amount is due?" DS> You don't know?? :P Some people find it easier to ask than look themselves. OTOH some billing statements are confusing. Telephone bill says it is due by August 6, but in the smallish print on page two says it's due by August 10, and after August 10 pay a higher amount. So is it due by the 6th or 10th?? And then the have some other amount which is $14.75 less than the amount printed as owed.... Heck, now I'm confused!! ¯ ® ¯ BarryMartin3@ ® ¯ @MyMetronet.NET ® ¯ ® ¯ (Humans know what ® ¯ to remove.) ® ....
