  Well, it may be a matter of life and death for my brother. When he
called me yesterday, it sounded like he was on his deathbed. They did
an EGD on him this morning, but they didn't find any signs of bleeding
in the stomach (i.e. an ulcer). Yet, they did some biopsies, to check
for possible pre-esophageal cancer. 

  Yet, they're going to tell him he has to STOP smoking (killing his
lungs), STOP drinking beer (killing his liver), and HAVE a colonoscopy
done. I think those 3 have as much chance of happening, as the Pope
renouncing Catholicism, or Hell freezing over.

  True. Sadly, we've grown into a world where it's wrong to offend
people.
