Subj : Proper Shutdown To : Barry Martin From : Daryl Stout Date : Fri Jul 10 2020 09:43:00 Barry, BM> Yes, though even with MS-DOS one should still try to shutdown properly. BM> And the newer disk filesystems tolerate bad shutdowns better -- still BM> not a good idea to just pull the plug but at least they recover the BM> data a lot better when somethign bad happens. There are several utilities to shut down Windows...there used to be one called WinEgress (Egress is another name for Exit)...you clicked on the EXIT icon in the taskbar, and it brought up the shutdown menu. DS> I do have logoff doors on the BBS, where one can logoff from DS> instead of the regular way. As noted, some disconnects are DS> unavoidable. BM> Sure: as long as the exit process has the various necessary steps wil BM> be fine. I even note such in a bulletin, several exceptions, where disconnects are unavoidable. If they let me know afterwards what happened, everything is fine. DS> The way folks are throwing temper tantrums when told to wear a DS> mask, makes me leery of getting out, or into any travel mode. BM> There seems to be some psychological factors going on. Seems the BM> states (and cities) where people are told to stay home, wear masks, BM> etc., are having problems with compliance: the people are pushing back, BM> being contrary. OTOH where the people were asked to stay home, etc., BM> it seems they more readily agreed and complied. No one likes to be told what to do...but it seems that even common sense has gone the way of the dinosaur. DS> But, I can't handle the long drives anymore...my legs spasm. BM> "Next Rest Stop 100 Miles"??!!! When I don't have to pee, plenty of restrooms in sight. When I have to pee, not even a tree is available. :P Daryl .... Diuretics - By Elron Hubbard.
