I can understand and agree with some of the new ideas, others make no 
sense to me and so yes, are a regression.  One can learn from the 
'politically incorrect' shows if they do the plotline correctly.  Quite 
possible the person is mentally challenged: don't make fun of them, 
though can have fun with them (as in enjoy their company and 
viewpoints).  OTOH if they are drooling or misbehaving that is 
inappropriate social behaviour and needs to be dealt with - how is a 
matter of the situation.  TV, movie, etc., storylines can help with the 
understanding.
