Subj : Postings, Seasons, Etc. To : Daryl Stout From : Barry Martin Date : Sun Jun 28 2020 07:47:00 Hi Daryl! DS> While it showed up as intended in MultiMail, it didn't in DS> Notepad. BM> So much for Microsoft! DS> Some systems have a hard time with high ascii characters, and DS> some message networks discourage use of them. Yes. Years ago a gentleman had a ^G in his tagline which displayed properly (can't recall the character) but when I printed out the message through my DEC LA50 printer into graphics mode. If just his message I didn't notice the problem as what I wanted to read was above the tagline so stopped reading. If two messages the first message was fine, the second garbled. Could print the first, power boot the printer to reset, and continue - that's too much work! Found the culpit character, found a utility or already had it as could do other modifications, substituted the ^G for probably a space -- no more problems! DS> Or like the song with Alan Jackson and Jimmy Buffet DS> (Margaritaville)... "It's 5:00 Somewhere". BM> I wonder if Blake Shelton wishes he had been in on that one?! DS> He has done several good songs as well. Yup: I have him 'guest appearing' on my Pandora options. BM> That's old! I think the old Batman TV show had "Slap!", "Bam!" etc. DS> They did. Now, they'd class that as too violent. BM> Figures. I'm not for violence but there are times when it seems to be BM> needed. ...Of course most of the time it escalates because people BM> don't know when to stop. DS> We're more bloodthirsty than the Romans were centuries ago. 'Cause deprived of it! Gimme! Gimme! DS> On opening night, there was a bald headed guy in the front row, DS> and Groucho said "I'm Groucho Marx"...then rubbing the head of DS> the bald man, said "This is Karl Marx. Sorry about the DS> Revolution, Old Man". BM> Y'mean they're not related?! DS> They both might have smoked cigars. Next class is Psychology where Herr Doktor Freud will be guest lecturer. DS> My late father and I went to see it, and my Dad wanted a seat DS> in the front row. I said "If we get that, he'll razz us all DS> night". So, we were a little further back. BM> Plus you don't get crick-neck from staring up to the stage all evening! DS> That's true. But, he did come off the stage to interact with DS> the audience. That's a plus! DS> Anyway, Groucho was doing the song about Lydia, the Tattooed DS> Lady. There was a heavy set female in the front row, laughing DS> uncontrollably (probably about to pee her pants). When Groucho DS> got done, her asked her what her name was. When she said "Lydia", DS> it brought the house down in laughter, and Groucho nearly fell DS> off the stage!! BM> That worked out!! :) DS> No one expected such...and that made it more funny. Definitely! BM> I'm glad I'm not a student now and have to guess the future. If I had BM> more than a summer job position I'd probably check about being able to BM> stay on and work until next year. DS> I'm glad I'm "retired on disability"...and they keep finding DS> stuff wrong with me...never mind the negative IQ test diagnosed DS> via Doctor QWK and Nurse Backus (we only pick on the ones we care DS> about, Nancy ). One of the nice things about being retired is the COVID-19 did not have a negative impact on my finances: my Pension, Social Security and IRA remained constant. Actually made money as the COVID-19 Stimulus check was a bonus. BM> I'm also in the category and have half-thought of taking a class or two BM> too, probably something to do with computers just to help me understand BM> the inner workings better, but then some 'crisis' comes up -- usualy BM> with the computers -- and I need to spend the time fixing that, and the BM> resolution is probably more in Python 401. DS> I'd like to go to the gameroom and play some pinball. Too DS> bad their computer science department zapped the BBS they had. DS> But, many schools have had to eliminate programs, furlough staff, DS> etc., as the money isn't coming in like it used to. Unfortunately. For them the BBS was probably used more like Facebook with picture posts, plus probably the need to be accessed via cell phone than laptop (much less a desk computer). DS> Falling on ones butt, and possibly breaking their tailbone, is DS> not fun. BM> As the French say, "sacrum bleu"! DS> That's what it looked like after the testapel implants a few DS> months ago. My left butt cheek was so bruised, that it looked DS> like some woman had opened up the drum of whoop-@$$ on me. :P https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u-eZCbiX3ck BM> ...Might be good timing: hit the 4th of July picnic/grilling sales. DS> The weather is going to be stormy here much of next week, so DS> I'll stay home. I posted a compilation of storm reports from the DS> National Weather Service in Little Rock, from flash flooding, DS> hail, and high winds, from June 23, in some of the weather DS> echoes. And, I noticed small branches, etc. down in my yard the DS> other morning, likely from those same storms. LIS in an earlier message, no storms around here lately. Did have that rainy period with minor wind gusts but not enough to tear off twigs much less branches. Current in hot-n-humid,which is normal for our Summer. And will get hotter and humider-er-er. ¯ ® ¯ BarryMartin3@ ® ¯ @MyMetronet.NET ® ¯ ® ¯ (Humans know what ® ¯ to remove.) ® .... There cannot be a crisis this week; my schedule is already full. --- MultiMail/Win32 v0.47 þ wcECHO 4.2 ÷ ILink: The Safe BBS þ Bettendorf, IA --- QScan/PCB v1.20a / 01-0462 * Origin: ILink: CFBBS | cfbbs.no-ip.com | 856-933-7096 (454:1/1) .
